World Wide Words Newsletter

Reliably provides useful and entertaining information to more than 50,000 English speakers around the world. Content is preserved on a searchable website, enabling people to look up things they are curious about (or settle arguments). Described as all free – what a great service Mr. Quinion provides!


GISTSUPPORT
Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumor Support Group

Encyclopedic information on a rare sarcoma, along with personal support and advice. Described as a warm email group of fantastic caring people.


GUAIGROUP
Guaifenesin Protocol/Fibromyalgia Treatment

List dedicated to a specific treatment protocol for fibromyalgia, a crippling and frequently misunderstood disease. Described as a list where all of the administrators understand fibromyalgia from the inside out as they all have the disease, making their help especially beneficial to the many who suffer from it.


DRS
Dead Runners Society

A discussion group for people who like to talk about running. The group is informal and social and its members try to encourage each other in their running programs. Described as the best list the nominator has ever been on.


ISEN-ASTC
Informal Science Education Network
Association of Science-Technology Centers

Since its inception 14 years ago, this list has offered an environment for the exchange of ideas and knowledge regarding informal science education. Museum staff, educators and other interested parties are encouraged to participate; the list has 1,445 members. Described as a remarkable network of mutual assistance.


OPERA-L
The Opera List

The list has been running on LISTSERV since 1995 (and 1990 on another server) and has had approximately 2000 subscribers for some time. The longevity of the list has made it a strong vehicle for communication about all facets of the opera, whether seen from the artistic or business angle, with topics including music, stagecraft, and vocal technique and training.


IWMF-TALK
International Waldenstrom's Macroglobulinemia Foundation TalkList

List dedicated to provide information and support regarding a rare form of lymphoma (Waldenstrom's Macroglobulinemia) to patients, family, caregivers and doctors. The disease is rare and incurable, and the list provides information that is hard to come by on cutting edge treatments and research, managing disease symptoms and treatment side-effects. With a membership of approximately 1,200 people from all continents, the list is described as an invaluable source of help and guidance for both the newly diagnosed and those who are facing disease relapse.


ICORS
Information Center for Online Resources and Services, Inc.

ICORS is a non-profit, all volunteer, 501(c)(3) charity dedicated to assisting individuals and groups, which offer support, information and community to people in need of services for disabilities, family issues, health issues and other similar areas. ICORS offers its clients technical assistance and services, including Internet services. Described as providing support to more than 100 list owners, who have in turn helped thousands of subscribers in the three years the list has been operating.

Voting Rules

  • Polls close April 1, 2009, at 6 p.m. Central European Time.
  • You may vote once every 24 hours.
  • After voting, you will be locked out from voting again (on the computer you voted from) for 24 hours.
  • L-Soft reserves the right to close some or all polls earlier than the posted end date.
  • The top three finalists will be announced Spring 2009.
