When it came time to choose a winner among the semi-finalists, judges noticed LM_NET's exceptional electronic community with more than 16,000 members from over 65 countries, many of whom work alone in small (often one-person) operations in de facto professional isolation from colleagues in their specific field. Several of the nominations mentioned the professional isolation experienced by school library media specialists and how LM_NET relieves that isolation by serving as a "lifeline" for these specialists.

The judges were impressed by the reach of the newsletter and the dedication of the volunteer editors and translators who make it possible.
